Overview

The Gregory, Carnarvon, and Dawson Highways project was a significant undertaking within the Transport Network Reconstruction Program, addressing damage from major flooding events between 2010 and 2011. This extensive rehabilitation package covered repairs and enhancements along the Gregory Highway 27A, Dawson Highway 46D, and Carnarvon Highway 24E.

The work scope included repairs to over 50 kilometres of state-controlled transport infrastructure, pavement widening, drainage improvements, and safety upgrades while maintaining traffic flow on these critical transport routes.

Highlights

Innovation: CMC utilised innovative materials and techniques such as Subtype 2.5 material for shoulder boxouts to improve stability over challenging subgrades and implemented ice and retarder in concrete mixes to manage the effects of heat and travel distances, ensuring workability and structural integrity.

Safety: 143,487 man-hours were logged without a lost time injury (LTI).

Community Engagement: Enhanced local infrastructure by replacing a crucial culvert at the local showground and actively supported the community’s health and safety by raising funds for a community defibrillator.

Economic: CMC delivered the project within the allocated budget and on schedule and established a 150-man temporary camp in Rollerston to alleviate local accommodation shortages, which also supported local employment and businesses.
