Overview

Engaged by CS Energy, CMC are delivering the enabling civil works for the Brigalow Peaking Power Plant (BPPP) at Kogan Creek, Queensland. To be delivered across four work packages, the project provides the critical infrastructure required to support the construction of a new gas-fired peaking power station, improving electricity reliability and supporting Queensland’s evolving energy network.

The scope includes a new intersection upgrade, construction of a 1.3km heavy vehicle access road, bulk earthworks, drainage infrastructure, culverts, electrical services, temporary haul roads and additional external civil works to support future Balance of Plant construction.

A key challenge is delivering multiple work packages within a live operating power station environment while maintaining safe access and managing interfaces with CS Energy and future contractors. Despite adverse weather conditions, the team is maintaining programme performance through proactive planning, innovative earthworks methodologies and early procurement of critical materials.

Highlights

Project Delivery: Early Works packages were completed ahead of programme and under budget, with bulk earthworks production consistently exceeding planned targets. More than 60,000m³ was excavated during the first full month of earthworks, while over 160,000 tonnes of imported embankment material were placed for the future gas plant pad.

Client Collaboration: Strong project performance and collaborative delivery to date, has resulted in CMC being entrusted with additional work packages throughout the project.

Sustainability and Workforce Development: Optimised earthworks balances and material reuse is reducing haulage requirements and environmental impacts. The project also supports local suppliers and subcontractors while providing ongoing mentoring and development opportunities for graduate engineers, project engineers and site supervision personnel.
