CMC is delivering three HDPE-lined evaporation ponds as part of the Dalby Water Supply Upgrade. The ponds will store concentrate from the new Northern Water Treatment Plant, supporting the long-term reliability and capacity of the region’s water supply.
The scope includes bulk earthworks, construction of three evaporation ponds, HDPE liner installation, construction of the water treatment plant platform, access roads, drainage, erosion control and revegetation works.
The project has been delivered under challenging weather and ground conditions, with site materials varying significantly depending on moisture content. Through close collaboration with Western Downs Regional Council, designers and subcontractors, the team successfully managed these challenges and maintained project progress.
Project Delivery: Completed approximately 394,000m³ of earthworks and installed 336,000m² of HDPE liner across pond floors and a further 62,000m² on batters. Despite challenging weather and ground conditions, the project progressed to full liner installation in two of the three evaporation ponds.
Community: More than 90% of the project workforce was sourced locally, supporting employment opportunities and local businesses across the Western Downs region.
Sustainability: Reused suitable site-won materials where possible to minimise waste and reduce environmental impacts throughout construction.
