CMC was engaged by the Department of Transport and Main Roads to upgrade the Gooding Drive roundabout as part of the Queensland Government's $160.7 million Commonwealth Games road network improvement works.

Scope

Construction involved upgrading the eastern approach as well as the circulatory carriageway on the southern section of the roundabout to three lanes to cater for daily traffic loads of >35,000 vpd.

Works included a left turn slip lane along Nerang-Broadbeach Road (southbound carriageway), the introduction of a left turn slip lane between Gooding Drive and Nerang-Broadbeach Road (west to north) and installation of traffic signals at the Palm Meadows Drive intersection.

The scope included pavement, drainage, roadside furniture, structures (sign gantry and retaining wall), lighting and traffic signals.

Major Quantities:

  • 4500 m³ excavation
  • 3000t asphalt under traffic
  • 2000m kerbing

  • Improved traffic flow
  • Higher capacity
  • Provide overall network benefits
  • Pedestrian and cyclist connections improved
  • Accommodate additional traffic on Nerang-Broadbeach Road (anticipated during the 2018 Commonwealth Games)
