Overview

CMC was contracted by TMR Wide Bay to undertake an extensive 19-site project upgrading major culverts along the Bruce Highway, which will greatly improve road safety and flood immunity for motorists.

This project involves significant pipe jacking, full width culvert replacements, pavement widenings and side-tracking, with sites stretching from Gympie to Gin Gin.

Highlights

Collaboration: Early in the project, CMC actively engaged in collaborative efforts throughout multiple redesigns. This included the adjustment of pipe diameters between sites, which proved crucial in preventing delays that were not originally accounted for.

Problem-Solving: CMC overcame a high number of variations and changes that took place due to the extensive nature of the project and unforeseen circumstances such as flooding, tunnelling conditions, and unsuitable materials.

Community Engagement: Many infrastructure projects underway in the region meant there was high stakeholder visibility of the works on the Bruce Highway and around the Gympie area. CMC engaged early with neighbouring properties, with most sites requiring access to drainage lines. Proactive consulting ensured that fencing alignments were managed to the satisfaction of the projects’ neighbours.

Safety: Throughout the project, CMC have maintained strong safety measures to address the projects proximity to high traffic areas, prioritising both the safety of the crew and the public. Underground and overhead utilities in the vicinity were carefully managed, especially alongside track alignments, to minimise risks and disruptions.
