This 5 km long project, located approximately 20km west of Glenden, took place within the Bowen Basin Coal Mining region, west of Mackay. The traffic makeup consisted predominately of oversized, over-mass loads and mine workers travelling to and from work between mine shift change overs.
The scope of works for this project consisted of full width pavement rehabilitation, including earthworks, excavation, profiling, subgrade testing and possible treatment, insitu stabilisation of existing subbase and subgrade materials with a triple blended (lime/cement/flyash) stabilisation additive, imported granular base course, 2 coat bituminous seal, minor culvert extensions to accommodate increase in road width, pavement marking and signage.
Programme: Reduced overall project duration and disruption to road users through effective traffic management modelling and staging, minimising the overall number of stages.
Design: Proposed and delivered an alternative pavement geometry that reduced the crown by up to 100 mm, saving over 1,300 m³ (3,100 t) of quarry material and providing significant cost savings through a collaborative, client‑approved design change.
