The Transport Network Reconstruction Program (TNRP) Gregory Highway 27B project was initiated in response to the extensive flood damage across Queensland during December 2010 and January 2011. Covering a stretch of highway in the Central Highlands region between Emerald and Clermont, the project repaired more than 29 kilometres of damaged transport infrastructure vital to the state’s coal mining centres.
CMC’s works involved comprehensive repairs including pavement overlay, in-situ cement stabilisation, and resealing activities.
Economic: CMC injected over half of the contract value back into the local economy by prioritising local engagement and suppliers, demonstrating a significant boost to regional economic activities.
Innovation: CMC delivered $600,000 in savings to TMR by implementing efficient practices under the Performance Incentive Cost Reimbursable Works Contract, showcasing effective project management and cost-saving measures.
Community Engagement: CMC supported the local community through sponsorships of various organisations including the Emerald Tigers Rugby League Football Club and CQ Total Football Academy. Additionally, CMC’s Indigenous Employment initiative partnered with Salvation Army Employment Plus to provide training and permanent employment opportunities for five local indigenous men and women. The indigenous trainees won the 2012 Zonta Award which recognises women working in a traditionally male dominated role or industry, and the award for ‘Most Outstanding Indigenous Apprentice or Trainee’.
Safety: CMC achieve 145,000 man-hours LTI free.
