Overview

The Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) Bundaberg Region Pavement Stabilisation project was initiated in response to the extensive damage sustained during the 2011 and 2013 floods which devastated much of Queensland. Awarded to CMC, this project aimed to restore and reinforce the road infrastructure across approximately 248 sites within the Bundaberg region.

CMC consolidated the contract with another NDRRA initiative, the Bundaberg Region North and South Package, to maximise efficiencies, contain costs, and minimise disruptions to the community.

Works included major and minor patching, concrete floodways, culvert remediation and maintenance, pavement spray seals, asphalt overlays and stabilisation. Some roads required full reconstruction with lengths varying from two to five kilometres.

Highlights

Innovation: CMC utilised advanced insitu stabilisation techniques incorporating cement and cementitious blends to strengthen and extend the lifespan of the road surfaces, enhancing their resilience against future adverse weather conditions.

Collaboration: Strong collaborative efforts facilitated between CMC and BRC streamlined operations. The project also had significant local engagement, including the hiring of over 200 local workers and subcontractors.

Community Engagement: A dedicated community liaison role was established to maintain open and continuous dialogue with local stakeholders, including residents and businesses, to address concerns and mitigate the impact of construction activities on the community.

Safety: CMC maintained an exemplary safety record with zero lost time injuries (LTIs) reported.
