This project was located in Central Queensland and involved upgrading 16km of Middle Road between Baralaba and Moura including formation widening, full width cement stabilised pavement overlay, drainage extensions and bitumen sealing.
Whilst Middle Road is a public road controlled by Banana Shire Council, Baralaba Coal is its primary stakeholder using the route to haul coal with quad road trains 24/7 from its Baralaba North Mine to its coal load out facility located near Moura approximately 50km away.
Programme: The program was a delicate balance of stabilisation mobilisation vs standby charges to ensure continuity of works. Curing and trafficking the freshly stabilised overlay with such heavy traffic was a key consideration and quality control point.
Traffic: Detailed traffic management was required to facilitate the 24/7 Quad Road Train haulage through the project. Delays to these critical coal haulage vehicles were strictly monitored and managed through close liaison.
