CMC has been engaged by TMR to upgrade a 6.1km section of the Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road. This project aims to improve safety, traffic flow, and resilience through extensive upgrades, including the construction of a new carriageway, intersection enhancements, and pavement renewal. The works extend from Iron Pot Road to east of Dairy Inn Road/Artillery Road intersection.
Community: CMC has directed 65% of project expenditure to local regional businesses and achieved 111,123 Indigenous work hours to date.
Sustainability: CMC implemented an innovative solution to reuse existing pavement materials as recycled content for embankments, select backfill, and subgrade preparation. This not only reduced project waste but also delivered significant cost savings for the client.
Value for money: To improve productivity and minimise costs, CMC transitioned to grader placement for lightly bound pavements. This approach eliminated the downtime associated with paver crews, increased flexibility in achieving precise levels, reduced material waste, and allowed greater productivity during pavement construction.
Traffic Management: Across the four project stages, various temporary pavements and barrier solutions were implemented to maintain traffic flow at 80 km/h for an average of 14,676 vehicles daily. Redesigning the temporary crossover’s vertical geometry further enhanced safety and efficiency.
Risk Management: This project tackles significant challenges such as managing unexploded ordnances (UXOs) and asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), which were discovered post-commencement, requiring specialised management and collaboration to mitigate risks.
