Overview

CMC constructed two sections of road, both five kilometres in length, providing approximately 18 kilometres of continuous bitumen road upon completion. Both sites were completed under full road closures with a detour in place for through traffic.

Local access was ensured and maintained throughout the project.

The scope included earthworks, extensive clearing and grubbing, subgrade treatments, unbound pavements (Type 2 and Type 3), sprayed bituminous surfacing, drainage infrastructure, line marking, and the installation of signs.

Highlights

Innovation: Early planning and detailed crane lift designs implemented in the project ensured double handling was eliminated in the transport and placement of 57 culvert units fabricated in Ipswich over 300km away.

Problem-Solving: Despite significant delays due to wet weather and Cyclone Marcia in February 2015, CMC completed works seven weeks ahead of schedule. Remote location strategies were in place and utilised to overcome a lack of communication infrastructure, internet, and phone connectivity.

Community Engagement: CMC actively participated and contributed to the Blaze Aid appeal after Cyclone Marcia’s effects on the community.
