Following major flood events in 2022, CMC was engaged by Clarence Valley Council under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangement (DRFA) to restore Old Glen Innes Road. The project involved remediating 16 major and 45 minor landslips along a remote, winding and narrow road corridor. Key works included slope stabilisation, road reconstruction, geotechnical analysis, environmental restoration, and the installation of gabion walls, rock fill, and drainage structures. CMC worked collaboratively with designers BG&E and geotechnical consultants FSG to develop innovative, durable solutions for this project. An additional 12 major and 3 minor sites were added to this project through variations.
Community Engagement: Close coordination with local residents ensured continuous property access during works. CMC also prioritised engagement with local businesses and subcontractors to maximise regional economic participation.
Cultural Heritage Preservation: Indigenous burial grounds were safeguarded through on-site Cultural Heritage Officers, an MOU with Gumbaynggirr representatives, and the installation of culturally respectful signage.
Efficient Delivery: This project was successfully completed under a lump sum contract, with CMC managing all resources, environmental concerns, and stakeholder communications effectively. The works were delivered on time, within budget and met client expectations.
