North Coast Line Passing Loop Extension

CMC has recently been awarded the North Coast Line Passing Loop Extension (NCL) project, forming part of QR’s North Coast Line Capacity Improvement Program.

The NCL has been the primary corridor for intermodal rail freight between Brisbane and Cairns for many years and operates as a multifaceted supply chain that transports a range of commodities required for communities across the region. The scope of works for this project is the design and construction of eight (8) rail passing loops located along the North Coast Line between Rockhampton and Townsville.

CMC will be responsible for the following construction works:

  • Mobilisation & demobilisation of all plant, equipment and labour.
  • Site establishment, provision of laydowns, site buildings including utilities.
  • Setout of project boundaries.
  • Existing service identification and locating by potholing where required.
  • Clearing and grubbing.
  • Construction of new earthworks for railway formation inclusive of Signal Equipment Pads;
  • Construction of drainage channels, concrete lined channels and rock protection.
  • Extension and reconstruction of existing culverts where required including new headwalls and Concrete Invert Road Crossings.
  • Construction of new signalling conduit runs and Pits.
  • Construction of under track crossings for conduit runs.
  • Topsoiling and hydro mulching of batters.
  • Provision of two CCTV cameras at each site.
  • Removal, reinstatement and certification of a section of track in accordance with CETS at the new Turnout and culvert reconstruction locations (performed during a Track Possession).
