Last week, CMC proudly hosted students from St Brendan’s College for a hands-on site experience – made possible through our collaboration with Construction Skills Queensland.
The day kicked off with a proper site induction and safety briefing (breathalysers included – and yes, everyone passed), followed by student introductions to members of Team CMC.
Chris Gray (Project Manager), Andrew Raphael (Senior Project Engineer), and Miceal MacCafferkey (Operations Superintendent) shared valuable insights into their careers, offering real-world guidance for those considering a future in civil construction.
Students were then taken on a guided site tour, with highlights including:
– Zach Collins impressing in the Grader
– Matt Stevens showcasing the Excavator
– Lachlan Robertson sharing his journey from Undergraduate to Site Engineer, demonstrating how learning from the ground up builds capability and confidence.
They observed sealing works in action – a perfectly timed operation that felt like a “construction ballet” – before heading to the site office for lunch and a Q&A session.
These experiences matter. In an industry facing a growing skills shortage, providing students with real exposure to the opportunities and people behind major projects is essential. It’s how we inspire the next generation and live out our commitment to exceptional people delivering exceptional outcomes.
Thank you to CSQ for making this possible. We’re proud to play a part in shaping tomorrow’s workforce.
