‘Dam’ Fine Visual Showcase of Completed Tailwater Structure

Check out these panoramic shots from earlier this year, taken as we put the final touches on the now complete Shannon Creek Dam Tailwater Structure for the Clarence Valley and Coffs Harbour City Councils.

They’re a great visual of the scale of work completed and the machinery needed for the new structure, with total labour clocking in at 32,991 hours.

The need for this new structure was apparent to CMC workers on site who experienced two significant flood events and a number of minor events during the life of the project – events that blocked one, or both access points to the site.

CMC was initially awarded the design and construction contract to replace the existing infrastructure which was failing to meet the needs of the community amidst changing weather conditions.

Following a detailed survey of the site and an investigation into the underlying rock, our engineers discovered that the original wall was constructed on top of approximately 1m of clay.

This resulted in a design process that was far from straightforward, and created a project that was challenging, but highly rewarding.

Significant collaborative work and redesigns were involved in creating the agreed model for the final structure, which now satisfies a 100-year design life ensuring long-term flood resilience for the community.

We’re proud to have worked closely with Council, designers, and all involved to bring this critical infrastructure project to life.
