At CMC, we believe it’s important to celebrate the important career and life milestones of our valued staff.
CMC’s environmental champion Claudia Azevedo, who was named 2022 Environmental and Sustainability Champion of the Year by the Queensland branch of the Civil Contractors Federation, is preparing for one of her biggest yet – the impending birth of her first child with husband Cleber.
During her pregnancy, Claudia has regularly travelled from CMC’s Brisbane office, where she is based, to project sites across regional Queensland and New South Wales.
Fitted out in a hi-vis CMC maternity shirt, Claudia and her already beloved unborn baby boy have visited numerous project sites located between Moura in Central Queensland and Nimbin in northern New South Wales.
Claudia says people often do a double take when she’s on site.
“It’s not really common in the industry to have a pregnant woman on construction sites,” she laughs.
But Claudia hopes that by sharing her story, the uncommon will become more common. And her story is remarkable.
Claudia came to Australia in 2019 from Brazil on an international visa to learn English and study civil construction design and engineering in an Australian context. Claudia was already well-qualified holding two Bachelor’s Degrees in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, a Master’s Degree in Project Management and had accrued eight years’ engineering experience working in Brazil.
Claudia joined CMC’s corporate Health, Safety, Environment and Quality team in November 2021 as an Environmental Engineer – a role in which she has already made a significant impact.
Claudia is passionate about educating, encouraging and empowering project personnel to be responsible and accountable for their practices and the condition in which they leave the local environment.
She will take time off after her baby boy is born, but plans to return to the role she loves in late 2024.
Best wishes Claudia. Your CMC colleagues are looking forward to welcoming CMC’s newest and youngest family member early next year.
