Honouring Country as We Begin Work in Lismore

As the CMC HULL Joint Venture established our main compound for the Lismore flood recovery portfolio, we were honoured to participate in a powerful smoking ceremony led by Gilbert Laurie, a proud member of the Yaegl and Widjibal tribes of the Bundjalung Nation.

Held on site at Blue Knob, the ceremony marked a meaningful moment of connection and respect. Gilbert shared stories of the land, its people, and the deep cultural heritage that surrounds us – from the significance of Nimbin and its geographic landmarks to the four river systems that shape the region: the Clarence, Richmond, Tweed, and Logan Rivers.

Through this ceremony, Gilbert gave us his blessing and let his ancestors know we are here to do positive work – rebuilding infrastructure, reconnecting communities, and supporting long-term recovery.

We are grateful for this opportunity to listen, learn, and walk respectfully on Country.

Rebuild. Reconnect. Recover.
