CMC was contracted to construct overtaking lanes across six separate sections of the Capricorn Highway between Rockhampton and Emerald.
Works on the two-way, two-lane rural highway included traffic management, earthworks, erosion and sediment controls, clearing and grubbing, cut and fill, asphalt and sealing works, line marking, concrete pavements, road furniture, subsoil drainage, precast drainage (RCP and RCBC’s) demolition, and landscaping works.
Innovation: The implementation of traffic innovations and restaging, including extended lane closures of up to 2.1 km rather than multiple small-lane closures, improved the efficiency of the project and resulted in CMC delivering the project 4 months early and within budget. These measures minimised frequent small lane closures, reducing traffic frustration and enhancing speed compliance from motorists.
Sustainable Impact: CMC led a process of harmonisation of the varied landscaping specifications across the sites which provided a conforming, stable finish to the works whilst providing significant savings to the Principal. As part of our Project Sedimentation and Erosion Control staging strategy, installation of both culvert drainage and earth drains were constructed early in the program ensuring that any surface water was directed and managed early in the construction.
Community Engagement: Through traffic management innovations and re-staging of the works CMC were able to significantly reduce the duration for the project and ensure we were complete well in advance of the Christmas school holiday period.
