The Bundaberg Flood Recovery Works project was undertaken to rehabilitate and reconstruct essential infrastructure that was severely damaged during the 2013 floods.
The project, managed by CMC, focused on extensive repairs to roads, drainage systems, and floodways across Bundaberg. This strategic initiative was pivotal in restoring functionality and safety to the region’s critical infrastructure.
Innovation: CMC implemented milling and filling techniques with asphalt to address subgrade issues and significant dig-outs, replacing the initially planned stabilisation methods. This approach proved to be more effective in managing challenges posed by the flood-damaged subgrades.
Safety: CMC maintained a safety record of 128,296 man-hours without a lost time injury (LTI).
Economic: Trials were conducted within specific geographical areas to streamline and reduce the costs associated with soil testing. Additionally, optimised the scheduling of different asphalt types on the same day to boost efficiency, programming, and mobilisation, reducing overall project costs.
Community Engagement: The project team carefully programmed work schedules to accommodate the operational hours of local businesses and the daily routines of residents in densely populated areas, minimising disruption and ensuring community cooperation and support.
