Monto-Mount Perry Road Upgrade
The project comprised two sections, both five kilometres in length, and provides approximately 18 kilometres of continuous bitumen road upon completion. Both sites were constructed under full road closures with a detour in place for through traffic. Local access was maintained throughout the project.
Major scope items and construction activities included earthworks, extensive clearing and grubbing, subgrade treatments, unbound pavements (Type 2 and Type 3), sprayed bituminous surfacing, drainage infrastructure, line marking and the installation of signs.
HIGHLIGHTS & OUTCOMES
Completed the works seven weeks ahead of schedule, despite significant delays due to wet weather and Cyclone Marcia (February 2015).
Concrete orders are closely quantified and a retarder is added to the mix to slow curing, this is due to travel time between major suppliers and site locations exceeding allowable concrete placement time.
Early planning and detailed crane lift designs successfully ensured double handling was eliminated in the transport and placement of 57 ten tonne culvert units fabricated in Ipswich over 300km away.
Proven remote location strategies were in place to overcome lack of communications, zero internet and phone.
CMC actively participated and contributed to the Blaze Aid appeal after Cyclone Marcia.
