Bruce Highway – Gympie Widening

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Located approximately 160 kilometres north of Brisbane, this project involved the upgrading of intersections and widening of the Bruce Highway from two to four lanes between Channon and Pine Streets, Gympie. The new works allow for further local development and greater integration between the residential and commercial areas on both sides of the highway.

The project zone adjoined a large number of businesses located along the Bruce Highway, with minimal disruption to local traffic and highway flows an important factor during construction.

SCOPE

Works involved four laning of the Bruce Highway, north and south-bound turning lanes, improvements to three signalised intersections, traffic signals, medians, footpaths, driveways, retaining walls, drainage, culverts, signage, line marking, services relocations, lighting, and landscaping.

Traffic management and sequencing were critical to the success of the project and community relations.
