Bruce Highway, Gentle Annie to St Arnauds Creek Safety Upgrade

Situated on the Bruce Highway south of Rockhampton near Raglan QLD, the Project involved 10km of newly constructed widenings and some full width sections to deliver safer shoulders, 1m wide centre line treatments and upgraded drainage structures all within a two-lane constrained highway.

A variety of pavement designs were involved throughout the project, most notably 62,000m2 of Insitu Cement stabilised base and following successful trials, CMC were awarded 10,500m3 of insitu stabilised subgrade using hydrated lime.

The success of the project relied heavily on the successful implementation of CMC, fully engineered traffic innovation to optimise traffic management that ultimately delivered the works early despite wet weather delays and challenging   subgrade conditions.

Major quantities include:

  • 80,000 m2 of clearing and grubbing and topsoil stripping
  • 34,000 m3 of excavation within the road corridor
  • 4,000 m3 of embankment
  • 10,500 m3 of lime stabilised subgrade
  • 28,000 m3 of Pavement materials including Type 2.5, 2.3 & 2.1
  • 62,000 m3 of Insitu cement stabilisation of base layers
  • The application of bitumen surfacing, reseals and 1000T of asphalt to 10km of the Bruce Highway network
  • 2000 m of steel beam guardrail
