Gracemere Industrial Access Project
Located approximately nine kilometres west of Rockhampton, CMC delivered a new rail overpass bridge above the Capricorn Highway and North Coast Rail line, along with approximately four kilometres of access roads between the highway, Somerset Road and Boongary Road.
The project provides safe access for all vehicles between the Capricorn Highway and Gracemere–Stanwell Industrial Precinct, and removes rail level crossings used by heavy vehicles.
Works involved approximately 4 kilometres of new road, construction of a PSC T-girder rail overpass bridge and abutments, bulk earthwork, pavements, bitumen surfacing, asphalt works, an upgraded signalised intersection, new drainage infrastructure, road lighting, and landscaping including extensive hydro-mulching.
HIGHLIGHTS & OUTCOMES
149,000 man hours LTI free.
13 percent training hours.
Sourced 40,000m3 of fill material by widening an existing cutting eliminating 2,000 offsite truck
Adopted relationship management contracting principles, leading to best for project outcomes.
Used a larger crane than required for PSC girder erection to minimise disruption to traffic on the Capricorn Highway.
CMC engaged with Aurizon and other key stakeholders to undertake detailed planning and preparation ensuring girder erection went smoothly with no delays to rail traffic.
Incident free haulage operation of 110,000m3 across Capricorn Highway and Blackwater Rail line.
Developed and executed construction methodologies that safely carried out work over the rail line which forms part of the Blackwater system carrying the second highest tonnage of coal on Aurizon’s network.
